Jan 25-Jan 26 vs St. Johns JV

Well we got a win and played fairly well over the weekend. Saturday night we battled hard but gave up a goal with under 4 minutes left to lose 4-3. We battled back to tie it and then lost late in the third. It was frustrating.  We need to find that urgency and realize that every shift counts. Sunday we regrouped and won 3-2 in a shootout. It was a good weekend of hockey and had a great crowd on Sunday as we had a Skate with the Jacks after the game. We now travel to Finlandia to play the JV Lions before play-offs. LONG LIVE THOSE LUMBERJACKS!

1-21-14 Jacks lose 4-1

Tonight we played in state Region 13 team in Williston State.  The Jacks lost 4-1 and I thought we played one of our best games of the season.  The only problem is we took too many penalties again and gave up 4-1.  I think we are going to figure it out.  I hope we are going to figure it out.   Tonight I think we gave up 3 PP goals and one was on a 5-3.  We grew as a team tonight and battled hard for each other.  We still need to shoot the puck more, but Williston has a really good defensive core that are solid and they move well for being big, and they did not give us much. We still have a lot more work to do but the next month will be fun as we try to work our way to a berth in the Nationals in Troy, NY.

Jan 18-19 @ Fargo NDSU

Not the way we wanted things to go this weekend. We lost to NDSU 5-4 in a shootout and lost 5-3.
We needed to find a way to win on Friday as we dominated the game and outshot the Bison but they got some good deflection goals in the dirty area and battled hard and made key saves when they needed them. As a coach I have to find a better way to get my message across as we have too many guys not ready to play.  It is getting old and it is getting very frustrating.  After hanging out in Fargo all day we played again in the evening and struggled all throughout the game. I think with it being our 5th game in 8 days after Christmas break finally caught up to us.  We were down 5-0 and finally got something going but it was too little too late. I really hope I can find a way to get these guys together because we are better than our record indicates and we are better than we are playing.  Long Live Those Lumberjacks!

January 14 vs Minot State

The Jacks lost to Minot State 6-0 tonight.  I do not think the score indicated on how the game went.  We battled and played hard throughout the game. Minot had better players, they were very disciplined, and they are very experienced.  That is why they are Champions.  I hope we learned from our game tonight.  We had many guys battling injuries and illness to play tonight.  It was good to find that will from within.  The only thing that was disappointing tonight, other than losing was our trips to the penalty box.  We took too many poor penalties that eventually led to our downfall. We gave Minot 10 Power Plays including two 5-3 situations.  You cannot do that to any team, let alone a team of MSU's caliber. Next up we have NDSU on Friday night and Saturday Night.  Let's get the winning streak started.  Long Live Those Lumberjacks.

January 11-12 vs Maple Grove

Well the guys started the new year with a 3-2 victory against Maple Grove in the first game back after Christmas Break. Aaron Rasmusson  scored two goals to pace the Jacks and Ryan Miner made some key saves to get the victory. It was a good start and the guys played well defensively. Game two saw the guys take it on the chin losing 6-2. It was a game that featured a lackluster Power Play by the Jacks and it saw them give up two short handed goals. There was little emotion and heart on Sunday for some reason and I hope that will change. We need to be a hardworking team to be successful and we did not work very hard on Sunday. The guys play Minot State this Tuesday which should be a big test as Minot is a very good hockey club. Long Live Those Lumberjacks!
